Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz says he cannot say how long he will remain in charge of Ghana’s national team.
The Portuguese coach was speaking ahead of Ghana’s second match in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when he was asked about his future with the Black Stars.
Queiroz said the most important thing for him is to focus on the next game rather than what happened in the past.
“The most important thing is we don’t win games with the past, but we also don’t lose games with the past. We go for results with the ability and the will to win the next game, to be well prepared and beat our opponents.”
He explained that previous results should provide lessons that can help the team improve, but the focus must remain on the present and the future.
“This is about the present, this is about the future. The past is important because the past gives us the learning process that we need to progress”
Queiroz also used the phrase “god of football” to explain why he cannot give a clear answer about how long he will remain as Ghana coach.
“With all due respect, and I know I am also a religious person, most people have religions, different gods, but football has its own god, and the god of football is results. So I cannot answer how many years, months or weeks I’ll be in the job”
The coach said only results will eventually provide an answer about his future, while also stressing the importance of hard work, belief and better preparation.
“Only the god of football can answer that. But my god, our god, is the one that gives us the will to work, the will to believe, the will to be better prepared. We have to be better organised, no doubt. We have to have better conditions around the pitch and around the players all the time. That’s our god.”
Queiroz will now turn his attention to Ghana’s next AFCON qualifying match as the Black Stars continue their campaign.
