Ghana’s Black Challenge have been placed in Group D for the 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
The national amputee football team will face Angola, Colombia and Iraq in the group stage of the competition, which is set to take place from November 13 to 22, 2026, in San Juan de los Lagos.
A total of 24 national teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas will compete in the tournament. Ghana’s group includes teams from three different continents, giving the African champions a strong test at the world championship.
Angola will be one of Ghana’s opponents from Africa, while Colombia will represent South America and Iraq will come from Asia.
Angola have a strong history in the competition. They won the World Cup in 2018 in Mexico before finishing as runners-up in 2022.
Ghana will enter the tournament with an impressive record from recent competitions in Africa. The Black Challenge won the African Amputee Football Championship in 2021 before taking gold at the first African Para Games in Accra in 2023.
They also retained their African title in Cairo in 2024 after beating Morocco 2-1 in the final. That victory earned Ghana a place at the 2026 World Cup.
The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that it will continue supporting the Black Challenge together with the National Amputee Football Association of Ghana and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
Gold Fields Ghana Limited will also support the team’s preparations for the World Cup, according to the GFA.
With the draw now completed, the Black Challenge will focus on getting ready for the tournament. Their preparations will include choosing the final squad, camping, working on tactics and making the necessary travel arrangements for Mexico.
Ghana will now look to build on its success in Africa when the Black Challenge face Angola, Colombia and Iraq in Group D at the 2026 World Cup.
