Asante Kotoko have parted ways with head coach Eric Tinkler after only three months, with the club confirming that the South African asked to leave because of personal reasons.
The 54-year-old coach joined the Kumasi-based club in July as they prepared for the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season. However, his time in charge lasted only four league games.
During those matches, Kotoko recorded one win, two draws and one loss. His final game was Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Aduana FC, which also became his first loss as the club’s head coach.
The defeat left the Porcupine Warriors in ninth place on the league table and brought Tinkler’s short spell in charge to an end.
Kotoko said its board agreed to Tinkler’s request to leave after trying to convince him to remain with the club.
“The Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has agreed to the request of its Head Coach, Mr Eric Tinkler, to be released from his contract with the Club effective immediately for personal reasons,” the club said.
According to Kotoko, the two sides had held “meaningful negotiations” as they tried to find a way to prevent Tinkler’s departure. However, the club eventually decided to respect his wish to leave.
Kotoko also thanked the former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City coach for his professional conduct during his short time in Kumasi.
