Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called on current GFA president Kurt Okraku to step down from his position.

His comments came during an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News monitored by SportyGhana.com as criticism of the GFA leadership continues following Ghana’s recent results.

Okraku has been GFA president since 2019 and was re-elected in October 2023 for another four-year term.

The Black Stars have gone through a difficult period in recent Africa Cup of Nations campaigns. Ghana exited the 2021 and 2023 AFCON tournaments at the group stage and did not qualify for the 2025 edition.

Ghana have also made a poor start to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, losing their opening two Group C matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia. The Black Stars suffered a 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia after taking a 2-0 lead.

Nyaho-Tamakloe, who previously served as GFA chairman before the position was changed to president, said Okraku should consider resigning if he believes his leadership has not produced the expected results.

“If he feels that he has failed and he has the culture of resignation, then nobody will tell him he will resign by himself as I did when I was there.”

He also explained why he believes resignation should be considered when a leader feels that things are not going well.

“If he is not coming up with good results, that’s why I use the word culture of resignation, there are certain things you don’t force on people.”

Nyaho-Tamakloe then called on Okraku to leave office if he believes that is the right thing to do.

“Either you do it and then one will know exactly that this man is principled…he should just quit like others have done in the past” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said.

The comments come at a time when Ghana’s football leadership is facing increased public criticism following the Black Stars’ start to the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
