Ghana vs England: I’ll not be surprised if we lose to England – Odartey Lamptey

Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey says he would not be surprised if the Black Stars lose to England in their important Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will face England in their second group game on Tuesday, June 23, at Gillette Stadium. Both teams are hoping to improve their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

The Black Stars, playing in their fifth World Cup, started the tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Panama in Toronto. England also began their campaign with a victory.

Despite Ghana’s winning start, Lamptey believes England have a stronger team and will go into the match as favourites.

Speaking to Asempa FM, the former Anderlecht forward said a Ghana victory would surprise him more than a defeat.

“I will be surprised should Black Stars win against England. They are better than us in terms of everything,” he said.

“I’m a Ghanaian, and if we win, I will celebrate, but on the phase of it, I’ll not be surprised if we lose to England,” Odartey Lamptey added.

Ghana, coached by Carlos Queiroz, will play Croatia in their final Group L match as they try to reach the knockout stage for the first time since the 2010 World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals. Continue to More Sports.
