Ghana vs England: We know our national team – Asamoah Gyan backs Black Stars

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan believes the Black Stars have a good chance of beating England when the two teams meet in an important Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

England go into Tuesday’s game in Boston as favourites after their 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening match. Ghana, meanwhile, needed a late goal from Caleb Yirenkyi to beat Panama 1-0.

Even though he accepts that England are a strong team, Gyan believes anything can happen in tournament football and Ghana should not be counted out.

“On paper, England are ahead of Ghana, but in a tournament, anything can happen,” Gyan said.

“It all depends on how each team approaches the game.”

The former Ghana captain, who is the country’s all-time leading scorer and top scorer at the FIFA World Cup, said the Black Stars often perform well when people expect less from them.

“We know our national team, and that’s why we love them. The people back home are passionate.”

Ghana and England both have three points after winning their first Group L matches, with first place in the group up for grabs.

A win for Carlos Queiroz’s side would move Ghana closer to reaching the Round of 32 before their final group match against Croatia.

England will be hoping to build on their strong start and secure an early place in the knockout stage.

Gyan, who played for Ghana at three FIFA World Cups, believes the Black Stars can compete with one of the tournament favourites if they produce their best performance. Continue to More Sports.
