Messi loses sole leader status: A new hero emerges in the goal scoring race

Canada striker Jonathan David has become one of the biggest stars of the second round of matches at the 2026 World Cup.
The Canadian forward scored three goals against Qatar as Canada cruised to a huge 6-0 victory.
After the match, David moved level with Lionel Messi in the race to be the tournament’s top scorer. Both players now have three goals.
Messi scored a hat-trick for Argentina in their 3-0 win over Algeria. However, Argentina’s captain has played only one match so far, while David has already played two games.
Several other players have scored two goals at the 2026 World Cup. They include Folarin Balogun, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Cyle Larin, Elijah Just, Kai Havertz, Yasin Ayari, and Yoan Manzambi.
