I love playing football – Messi after hat-trick vs Algeria
Argentina legend Lionel Messi has sent a warning to his country’s next opponents at the 2026 World Cup, saying he is in good form for the tournament.
Messi spoke to the media after his outstanding performance in Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Algeria.

The former Barcelona star impressed football fans around the world with his brilliant display for Argentina.
Messi also made history by matching Miroslav Klose’s World Cup goal record, becoming joint top scorer in the tournament’s history.
He said, “I love playing football, it has been my passion since I was little. And when I’m in good form, I give everything I have on the field. This is my sixth World Cup, and I still feel like I’m in good shape. Fortunately, I’m doing well, and today we managed to win a tough match..
“It’s important to start the tournament with a victory in the first game, as that’s never easy in a World Cup. We struggled in the first half, but fortunately we overcame that, and in the second half we created a crucial difference.”
At the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Argentina lost their opening match 2-1 to Saudi Arabia before recovering and going on to win the tournament.
Argentina will now face Austria on June 22 and Jordan on June 27 in their remaining group matches. With Lionel Messi leading the team, the defending champions continue to be seen as one of the favourites to win the World Cup again.
