I want to wish them the very best, go for gold – Bawumia charges Black Stars

Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has sent a message of support to the Black Stars ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
As excitement grows across the country before Ghana’s first group-stage game, Dr Bawumia encouraged the players to take on the challenge and make the nation proud on the world stage.
“Football has always been part of us as a nation. It has always united us and it brings the world together,” he said.
The former Vice President spoke about the important role football plays in bringing Ghanaians together and said he believes the team can perform well at the tournament.
“As the Black Stars start their journey at the 2026 World Cup, I want to wish them the very best,” he added.
Dr Bawumia also reminded the players of Ghana’s strong history at the World Cup and urged them to take inspiration from former generations who represented the country at the tournament.
“Black Stars, you have done it before and you can do it again. The nation is behind you and I am behind you. Go for gold,” he added.
