Majeed Ashimeru finally speaks after Black Stars World Cup snub

Majeed Ashimeru has accepted his omission from Ghana’s 2026 World Cup squad and has spoken publicly for the first time since the final squad was announced.

The RAAL La Louviere loanee was left out of Ghana’s final squad despite impressing during the friendly match against Mexico.

His omission led to questions from many fans, with some criticising the football authorities and the new coach for leaving out the versatile midfielder.

Despite his disappointment, Ashimeru is supporting the Black Stars and believes they can beat Panama in their opening match on Wednesday.

“Let us support the team tomorrow so we can win the game. The first game is very important. We can win the game, one hundred percent,” he said in a video shared on social media.

Speaking about his omission, Ashimeru asked his supporters to stay calm and said his chance to represent Ghana at a major tournament will come again.

“What has happened has already happened. We just have to support. Life goes on,” he added.

Ashimeru was recently seen training at Nania Park in Legon alongside former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew.

The former WAFA player last represented Ghana at a major tournament during AFCON 2023, where he was one of the team’s standout performers despite a disappointing campaign.

He is expected to return to his parent club Anderlecht this summer for pre-season training ahead of the new season, which begins in August.
