We’re really not afraid of anyone – Panama striker confident ahead of Ghana clash

Panama striker Ismael Diaz has sent a strong message ahead of his country’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying his team is not afraid of any opponent and is ready to achieve something special.

The experienced forward believes Panama have the determination and confidence needed to compete against stronger teams, starting with their Group L opener against Ghana in Toronto.

When asked what Panama need to make history at the World Cup, Diaz gave a simple answer.

“We are very hungry,” he said.

The 29-year-old explained that the team’s confidence has grown in recent years and that the players now approach major tournaments without fear.

“We’re really not afraid of anyone, and we want to compete against whoever comes up against us. That’s been important; we’re starting to believe it,” Diaz stated.

His comments show how much Panama have developed as a national team. The players now believe they can compete with some of the best teams in the world.

Preparations have been busy at Panama’s training camp in New Tecumseth, Ontario.

The team’s schedule on Saturday included tactical meetings, training sessions, and recovery work as they continued preparing for their match against Ghana.

Diaz, one of the leaders in the squad, believes every player shares the same goal.

“I’m completely sure, and I speak for everyone on the team, that we’re going to do great things, God willing, in this World Cup,” he said.

Panama face a difficult group, but confidence inside the camp continues to grow.

With a fearless attitude and a strong desire to compete, the Central American nation hopes to become one of the surprise teams of the tournament.

Their World Cup journey begins against Ghana, where Diaz and his teammates will look to turn their confidence into a positive result on football’s biggest stage.
