There’s too many mix ups in this Black Stars team – Former Sports Minister hints

Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye says he is not fully confident about the Black Stars’ chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He made the comments on Citi FM ahead of Ghana’s opening match against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, in Canada.
Ghana’s preparations for the tournament have faced challenges. The team played only one friendly match under head coach Carlos Queiroz, who was appointed in March. There are also concerns about the absence of deputy captain Thomas Partey after Canada denied his visa application for the Panama game.
Speaking about Ghana’s chances at the World Cup, Vanderpuye said he remains hopeful but is not completely convinced by the team.
“I’m not 100% confident in our team; I’m not. I am a Ghanaian…but I’m confident in them.
The confidence I had in the team that went to the 2006 World Cup, 2010 and even 2014 World Cup, it’s not the same as now due to the fact that this team has not been a consistent team.”
He believes the lack of stability in the squad and the recent coaching change could affect the team’s performance.
“There’s been too many mix ups in this team and worst of all, look at the change in the timing in the change of the technical department…and unfortunately, we are looking at a team that is training under this coach for just about a month” he said.
Despite his concerns, Vanderpuye said he still has confidence in the players and hopes they can perform well when the tournament begins.
