The Black Stars of Ghana begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign this evening with a Group L match against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada.
The five-time African champions enter the tournament hoping to make a strong start as they target a place in the knockout stage. With England and Croatia also in Group L, a positive result against Panama could be crucial to Ghana’s chances of progressing.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz will be leading Ghana at his first major tournament with the team and will be looking for an encouraging performance from his players in their opening game.
Ghana will be without deputy captain Thomas Partey, who was unable to travel to Canada after his visa application was refused. His absence means other midfielders will have the responsibility of helping the Black Stars control the game.
Captain Jordan Ayew is expected to play a key role, while Antoine Semenyo will lead the attack as Ghana look to find the goals needed to secure victory.
