Five Ghana players who started in the Black Stars’ opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup wore special stickers on their jerseys during the game against Panama.
The stickers are part of FIFA’s latest innovation for the tournament and are placed on the shirts of players making their World Cup debut. FIFA introduced the feature shortly before the competition began.
For Ghana, Jonas Adjetey, Ernest Nuamah, Marvin Senaya, Jerome Opoku and Caleb Yirenkyi were all seen wearing the small sticker on the right side of their jerseys as they stepped onto the pitch for their first World Cup appearance.
Nine other players on Ghana’s bench also had the sticker on their shirts, including second-half substitute Benjamin Asare.
The Black Stars travelled to the tournament with 14 World Cup debutants after injuries ruled out some key players, including Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus.
Ghana were hoping for a positive result in their opening match after England defeated Croatia in the first Group L game.
The Black Stars are making their fifth appearance at the World Cup and will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage after failing to do so in the 2014 and 2022 tournaments.
