Ruben Amorim presented with chance to sign Man Utd player
Italian giants AC Milan have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Manuel Ugarte from Manchester United as they prepare for a new era under incoming head coach Ruben Amorim.
According to journalist Nicolò Schira, Ugarte’s name has been proposed to Milan, although no formal negotiations have taken place at this stage.
“No talks ongoing yet but just a proposal,”* Schira reported.
The potential move would reunite Ugarte with Amorim, who previously coached the Uruguayan midfielder at Sporting CP before both later moved to Manchester United.
Amorim is expected to take charge of AC Milan after agreeing to replace Massimiliano Allegri. The Portuguese tactician faces the challenge of rebuilding a side that missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification after finishing fifth in Serie A.
Despite their previous successful partnership, Ugarte struggled to establish himself under Amorim during the 2025/26 season at Old Trafford. The midfielder often found himself on the fringes of the first team and was publicly challenged by Amorim to improve his performances in training.

Speaking last season, Amorim said:
“He is struggling in the moment, but it is our job to try to help our players. He needs to adapt and he needs to improve, especially in training.”
The 25-year-old has nevertheless remained determined to fight for his place. Amid transfer speculation earlier this year linking him with clubs such as Galatasaray and Juventus, Ugarte made it clear he was not ready to give up on his Manchester United career.
“I’ve learned a lot, and I know my opportunity will come,”* he said while on international duty with Uruguay.
For Milan, Ugarte could represent an attractive option as they seek to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new campaign. Known for his ball-winning ability, defensive intensity and work rate, the Uruguayan would fit the profile of a player capable of adding steel and energy to the Rossoneri engine room.
Whether Amorim is interested in a third reunion with his former player remains uncertain, but Ugarte’s future could become one of the transfer stories to watch as the summer window progresses.
