Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has travelled to Amsterdam after leaving the club’s pre-season training camp at St. George’s Park as he moves closer to completing a loan switch to Dutch giants Ajax.
The German international has been given permission to leave Barcelona’s camp after the two clubs reached an agreement on the main terms of the transfer.
Although the deal is close to being finalized, it has not yet been officially completed. Several important administrative and legal procedures must still be concluded before Ajax can formally announce the arrival of their new goalkeeper.
The move is expected to bring an end to weeks of negotiations that delayed Ter Stegen’s departure from the Catalan club.
Medical and Paperwork Still Outstanding
Before the transfer can be made official, Ter Stegen must successfully complete his medical examination in the Netherlands.
He will also need to finalize the remaining contractual documents and sign all the necessary agreements linked to the loan deal.
Until those formalities are completed, the experienced goalkeeper will not begin training with his new teammates at Ajax.
The remaining steps are considered routine for an international transfer, and neither club is believed to have concerns about the deal collapsing at this stage.
Once the paperwork is completed, Ajax are expected to officially unveil the former Barcelona captain as their newest signing.
Negotiations Took Several Weeks
Ter Stegen remained with Barcelona throughout the club’s pre-season preparations while negotiations continued behind the scenes.
Talks between Barcelona and Ajax reportedly focused on several financial details before an agreement could be reached.
Among the main issues discussed were the distribution of the goalkeeper’s salary during the loan spell, the overall financial structure of the agreement, and tax differences between Spain and the Netherlands.

“It’s not all done yet,” the German goalkeeper said.
His comments reflected the fact that although the agreement is close, the final procedures must still be completed before the move becomes official.
