International law lecturer Michael Doudou of MountCrest University has advised Ghana to use diplomatic talks with Canadian authorities following reports that Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has been denied a visa ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Partey, one of Ghana’s key players, is reportedly unable to travel to Canada for the Black Stars’ opening World Cup match against Panama on June 17, 2026.
Reports suggest the visa decision is linked to legal allegations currently being handled by a court in England.
Speaking on the issue, Doudou explained that Canada, like every independent country, has the right to decide who can enter its territory based on its immigration laws and national interests.
According to him, it may be difficult to challenge the decision through other means because Canada has the legal authority to control entry into the country.
The international law expert said the most practical option for Ghana is to engage directly with Canadian authorities through diplomatic channels and ask for a review of the decision.
Doudou believes diplomatic discussions offer the best chance of finding a solution before Ghana’s World Cup campaign begins.
His comments come as efforts continue to secure Partey’s availability for the Black Stars ahead of their important Group L opener against Panama.
The Thomas Partey Canada visa controversy: If we want Thomas Partey to partake in the match, we have to go and beg.
