Bigscout Media has issued an unqualified apology to the Ghana Football Association after publishing allegations relating to Black Stars forward Prince Owusu and his selection for Ghana’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The media outlet also confirmed that it has removed every publication connected to the allegations from its digital platforms following legal action initiated by the Ghana Football Association.
The development marks a significant turn in a story that attracted widespread attention across Ghana’s football community after claims surfaced suggesting that money had been demanded from Prince Owusu before he was selected for the national team.
From the beginning, the Ghana Football Association strongly rejected the accusations, insisting they were false and damaging to the reputation of both the Association and Ghanaian football.
Following legal correspondence from the GFA’s lawyers, Bigscout Media has now withdrawn the content and publicly apologised for allowing the allegations to be shared through its platform.

The Allegations That Sparked the Dispute
The controversy began after allegations were made during an interview published by Bigscout Media. According to the claims made during that interview, a woman who identified herself as Prince Owusu’s cousin alleged that officials of the Ghana Football Association demanded a large percentage of the player’s expected World Cup earnings before facilitating his inclusion in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The allegation quickly spread across social media, generating intense discussion among football supporters and attracting widespread public attention.
Because the claims questioned the integrity of Ghana’s national team selection process, they became one of the most talked about football stories in the country.
However, the Ghana Football Association immediately rejected the accusations and insisted that no such events had taken place.
GFA Responds Through Its Lawyers
In response to the allegations, the Ghana Football Association instructed its legal representatives, Odupong & Kishiwale, to act on its behalf.
The law firm sent a formal cease and desist letter to Bigscout Media. In the letter, the lawyers described the allegations as false, baseless, and defamatory.
According to the legal correspondence, the claims had no factual foundation and unfairly damaged the reputation of the Association.
The lawyers specifically referred to the interview in which the woman claiming to be Prince Owusu’s cousin alleged that GFA officials demanded 70 per cent of the player’s expected World Cup earnings in exchange for helping him secure a place in Ghana’s squad. The Ghana Football Association strongly denied that any such request had ever been made.
GFA Firmly Rejects the Claims
Throughout the controversy, the Ghana Football Association maintained a consistent position. The Association insisted that no official had demanded, requested, or agreed to receive any percentage of Prince Owusu’s earnings in connection with a Black Stars call up.
It stressed that player selection remains entirely the responsibility of the national team’s head coach. According to the GFA, administrative officials play no role in deciding which players are selected to represent Ghana.
The Association also reiterated that it does not demand or collect money from players for national team invitations under any circumstances.
By issuing a firm public denial, the GFA sought to reassure supporters that its selection processes remain professional and transparent.
Legal Demands Made to Bigscout Media
The cease and desist letter outlined several actions that the Ghana Football Association expected Bigscout Media to take.
The Association’s lawyers demanded the immediate removal of the interview and every related publication from all digital platforms.
They also instructed the media outlet to stop republishing the allegations in any form. In addition, the legal team requested a public apology together with a full retraction of the claims.
The lawyers further instructed Bigscout Media to preserve every relevant digital record connected to the publication.
Finally, they demanded written confirmation that all requested actions had been completed within forty eight hours. The letter also warned that failure to comply could result in legal proceedings against the media outlet.
Bigscout Media Confirms Compliance
Following receipt of the legal letter, Bigscout Media responded directly to the Ghana Football Association. In its response, the outlet confirmed that it had complied with the demands outlined by the Association’s legal representatives.
The company stated that every publication connected to the interview had been removed from its social media pages and other digital platforms.
This included deleting the original interview as well as any related content that repeated or referenced the allegations.
By taking those steps, Bigscout Media acknowledged the seriousness of the legal concerns raised by the Ghana Football Association. The removal of the material represented an important development in resolving the dispute.
Public Apology Issued
Alongside confirming that the publications had been removed, Bigscout Media also issued a formal apology to the Ghana Football Association.
The apology was addressed directly to the Association and accepted responsibility for allowing the allegations to appear on its platform.
“I would like to use this opportunity to render an unqualified apology to your client, the GFA, for allowing an individual to use my platform to smear the image of your client,” the statement read.
The wording of the apology made it clear that the outlet regretted publishing the interview and recognised the damage it may have caused.
The statement also reflected an acknowledgment that greater care should have been exercised before allowing such serious allegations to be shared publicly.

Commitment Not to Repeat the Allegations
Bigscout Media went beyond simply apologising. The outlet also assured the Ghana Football Association that similar allegations would not be republished in the future. In its response, the company expressed regret for what it described as its own “excesses.”
This commitment was intended to demonstrate that the matter had been taken seriously and that lessons had been learned from the incident.
The assurance may also help reduce the likelihood of further legal disputes between both parties regarding the same allegations. The public statement represented a clear effort by the outlet to resolve the issue amicably.
Prince Owusu Also Denied the Claims
The latest development follows an earlier response from Prince Owusu himself. The Black Stars forward publicly rejected the allegations and insisted they were completely untrue.
He described the claims as “completely false” and reaffirmed his commitment to representing Ghana whenever selected for the national team.
Owusu’s response aligned with the position consistently maintained by the Ghana Football Association throughout the controversy.
By denying the allegations personally, the striker sought to remove any uncertainty surrounding his relationship with the national team and the football authorities. His statement also reinforced his desire to continue serving Ghana with pride.
